2005 BSLA Executive Committee Annual Strategic Planning Meeting
On Saturday, October 1, 2005, fifteen members of the BSLA Executive Committee held its annual strategic planning meeting. The focus on the coming year will be to significantly increase programming.

LARE Review Program in Rhode Island

The Rhode Island ASLA Chapter will again provide review sessions for the 16th year! In their most recent newsletter, they remind us that "The RIASLA sessions have gained the reputation of being challenging, focused, information, interactive and whenever possible, fun." While this year's review is complete, plans are being set to deliver an updated program next February. Registration information will be available in January.

Veterans' Memorial and Memorial Park $10,000
Design Competition

Sunderland, MA announces a $10,000 design competition for a Veterans' Memorial and Memorial Park. A two stage juried competition will award a $7000 first prize and three $1000 second prizes. November 23, 2005 deadline for submissions.

4th exhibition of site specific sculpture & installation
at historic Forest Hills Cemetery

The Forest Hills Educational Trust invites artists, architects, and landscape architects to participate in Dwelling: Memory, Architecture and Place at Forest Hills Cemetery. This juried outdoor exhibition will consist of temporary site specific installation work and sculpture set into the landscape of Forest Hills Cemetery, a magnificent 19th century garden-style cemetery and arboretum in Boston, MA. HomeWorks Sourcebook is proud to bring you the 2006 Luxury Living Awards, an exclusive design competition that recognizes New England's most beautiful living spaces and the professionals that create them. The goal of the Luxury Living Awards is to promote outstanding home & garden design. The Awards focus on interior and exterior living spaces such as kitchen, bathroom, living room, outdoor living and more.

HomeWorks Sourcebook organizes the Luxury Living Awards with the support of leading trade groups, media partners, and financial sponsors.

Award Categories
The Awards are organized around common interior and exterior residential living spaces. A total of 12 award categories have been established: kitchen, bathroom, master suite, living room, dining room, casual living, home theater, specialty space (e.g., wine cellar), custom home, outdoor living, whole house remodel, and landscape. A 'Design of the Year' award will also be chosen.

Entries
Professionals and/or homeowners may submit entries for any residential living space that has been remodeled within the past 2 years. Though an individual company may take the lead in submitting an entry, the entry must be made on behalf of the entire 'team' of professionals - design, build, retail - responsible for creating the space. Team members need not have formally been a team to enter.

Job Opportunities

Landscape Architects and Planners
Positions are currently available in our Boston office. We are looking for highly ambitious, talented individuals to join Hart Howerton. Projects are varied and include high-end large scale community master planning, resort and ski area design, and luxury residential work, in a range of unique environments both nationally and internationally. Both positions provide the opportunity for growth and advancement.

Project Manager
The Project Manager will be a team leader, with excellent communication skills and with a good knowledge of resort and new community planning and design. Able to assume responsibility for managing a small team of landscape architects/planners effectively producing quantifiable results and maintaining fiscal objectives. Prerequisites of the position include the ability to interface with clients and other Hart Howerton team members, including planners, architects and engineers, in an interdisciplinary approach; familiarity with AutoCAD; good informal graphic and illustrative skills.

The successful candidate will have 5+ years experience and a master or undergraduate degree in Landscape Architecture or Planning

Junior Designer
The Junior Designer will work as part of a multidisciplinary team on planning and landscape architecture projects and perform a variety of tasks, such as providing CADD support and assistance in completing and preparing, design studies and sketches. This position requires excellent interpersonal and organizational skills for working within an overall design team environment, strong and versatile design skills, excellent presentation and communication skill (verbal and written). Skills include experience with AutoCAD, Acrobat and Microsoft Suite. Strong sketching skills and familiarity with planning concepts are pluses.

The successful candidate will have 0-3 years experience and a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture or Planning.
