L.A.R.E.
- Sign Up Today! Summertime is great for cookouts, vacations and spending time with family and friends. But don't forget, you can take a step closer to your landscape architectural license by taking Section A, B or D of the L.A.R.E. this July. (If you know someone "on the road to licensure," please forward this message to him or her.) There are many reasons to register <http://www.clarb.org/exams_regmc.asp?target=fo> for the July exam today:
  • You will avoid the rush - Since CLARB now offers the multiple-choice exam several times a year, there are fewer candidates taking the exam at each sitting. This means that you are likely to get your first choices for exam sites and times.
  • You can take full advantage of the new computerized testing process - Less travel, less stress and a smoother application process mean that you can concentrate harder on preparing for and taking the exam. Passing rates have increased as a result.
  • New study material helps you prepare - Exam candidates who took CLARB's new online multiple-choice practice exams had higher passing rates than those who did not. Three practice exams are now available on-demand at www.C2Ed.com

It's not too late to register - The last day to register for the July
25/26 exams is July 11th. Register before July 4, 2005 and avoid late fees of $25 per section. You can apply online at www.clarb.org in minutes. If you have a CLARB Council Record,
your $75 registration fee is waived!

Remember, the sooner you pass the exam, the sooner you can apply for licensure and get the recognition you deserve. Register
<http://www.clarb.org/exams_regmc.asp?target=fo> for the L.A.R.E. today.

Integrated Design/Integrated Development Awards

We are seeking submissions for the annual IDID Excellence in Sustainable Design and Development Awards, which will honor work that contributes, by its design, to the creation of a sustainable world. The awards are to be presented to outstanding buildings; urban, regional, and rural planning; landscape design; interior design; historic preservation; renovation; and rehabilitation projects. We are looking for built projects that successfully incorporate minimum impact design components and move toward sustainable development practices, demonstrating excellence in design and the beneficial synthesis of an integrated design process.

Submissions will be accepted for projects of any type anywhere in the world by any New England design professional, or projects in New England by design professionals elsewhere. Design professionals are defined as architects, planners, landscape architects, engineers, and allied design professionals. Please go to http://www.aianh.org/action/ididcall.shtml for a Call for Entries.

Integrated Design/Integrated Development Conference

IDID is coming in October this year! The third Integrated Design/Integrated Development Conference will be at the Appalachian Mountain Club: Highland Center at Crawford Notch, Bretton Woods, NH. The Highland Center is a newly constructed environmentally innovative facility in one of the White Mountains' most spectacular settings. It has received many honors and accolades. It is the perfect site for a conference on sustainable design and development, and at the perfect time of year, October 6-7. The foliage will be brilliant. Be sure to mark your calendar and join us for our third Integrated Design Integrated Development Conference.

The theme of this year's conference is "The Human Face of Green Design." For conference information: http://www.aianh.org/action/idid.shtml

It's a good idea to make overnight reservations now, as this will be in the height of foliage season, up north!! Reservation information for the Highland Center lodging is at: http://www.aianh.org/action/ididfee.shtml.

October 7-10, 2005

LARE Review Program in Rhode Island

The Rhode Island ASLA Chapter will again provide review sessions for the 16th year! In their most recent newsletter, they remind us that "The RIASLA sessions have gained the reputation of being challenging, focused, information, interactive and whenever possible, fun." While this year's review is complete, plans are being set to deliver an updated program next February. Registration information will be available in January.

Internships Wanted

Greetings from Experience International. EI is a not-for-profit, educational organization in Everson, WA designated by the US Department of State to sponsor J-1 visa training programs. We place professionals from around the world in hands-on trainee-ships in the United States. Since 1988 we have been placing international professionals with outstanding hosts in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, forestry, fisheries and resource management.

Two applicants from Holland have applied to our program seeking an internship in Landscape Architecture. They are third year Garden and Landscape Architecture students at Larenstein University in the Netherlands. The timing of their training is flexible. They are seeking 3-6 month placements starting in August or September. They must return to school in the Netherlands by January of 2006.

Please find linked the resumes and placement requests of Christian Jansen (Curriculum Vitae / Placement Request) and Martine Kolkman (Curriculum Vitae / Placement Request). The Placement Requests outline the exact kind of experience that they are looking for. Trainees are sponsored by EI and placed with a host which typically provides housing and a stipend or an hourly wage and then the trainee is responsible for his or her own housing. Individual arrangements are negotiable on a case by case basis. Hosts also pay $85 per month EI for ongoing program support.

Trainees have personal health and accident insurance through EI and are responsible for their own travel to and from the United States. EI arranges everything related to their visa and provides ongoing support through reports, site visits, annual retreats and regular phone and e-mail contact.

Please contact Jim Miller, Program Coordinator at (360) 966-3876 or progcoord@expint.org if you are interested in hosting one or both of these students or if you just would like more information.EI would be glad to follow up on questions related to their specific experience and qualifications or to arrange a telephone interview. We would also be glad to give you the names of current or past hosts as references.
