For over 50 years, Olmsted and his firm were actively involved as designers and advisors in efforts to create a capital city of monument and greensward worthy of the modern American nation.

Landcape Architect - VHB, Watertown, MA
Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) is seeking a landscape architect to join their growing Planning and Design Studio in Watertown, MA. The candidate shall posses a BS or MS in Landscape Architecture with 5-8 years experience working for a landscape architectural office with exhibited professional growth, increasing project responsibilities and well rounded experience in all aspects of design through construction. Candidate must show a good blend of design and technical skills with the ability to convey ideas both graphically and verbally. Candidate must be a team player, have the ability to move from project to project while providing various support skills to a number of project managers. Desire to work in a multi-disciplinary environment necessary. Familiarity with sustainable design practices desired. Public speaking skills and writing skills a plus. Landscape Architect registration/license preferred.
Project types include both public sector and private sector clients, primarily in the New England area, though the office does provide support to all of VHB’s east coast offices.
Expected tasks:
Produce construction documents
Develop planting plans, technical details and write specifications
Prepare estimates of probable construction costs
Construction site visits and plant tagging
Create concept plans, both by hand and computer
Create illustrative plans / sketches, both by hand and computer
Draw cross sections, both by hand and computer
Prepare sketch-up models
Prepare graphics for presentations (PPT) and public process materials
This is a part-time position with the opportunity to grow into full time employment.

Candidates must have a degree in landscape architecture from an accredited program with a minimum of 7 years of well-rounded experience in design and construction; a strong aptitude for developing design concepts and administering contracts; a proven ability in directing colleagues through professional knowledge and technical oversight; and, thorough project management experience including oversight of multiple, simultaneous projects.
