Emerging Professionals Survey of Interests

The Emerging Professionals Committee (EPC) would like to take the opportunity of the new year to reach out to our community of new and experienced professionals, members and non-members alike.

The EPC is dedicated to establishing a community of student ASLAs, recent graduates and associate level LA professionals. Our mission is to provide monthly educational and social events. This survey covers specific areas where we would like to focus and your feedback would be extremely valuable.

For emerging professionals, please fill out the survey. Feel free to forward this email on to any friends and colleagues who may be interested.

For non-EPs, please pass this on to your junior staff members. We are always looking for ways to engage our EPs with seasoned pros. If you have an interest in connecting to the profession through service, we are looking for individuals or firms interested in the following:
- Leading a site tour of one of your local projects
- Presenting at one of our events
- Informal mentoring to students or EPs

Teaching Fellowship at Harvard Graduate School of Design

The Daniel Urban Kiley Teaching Fellowship will be awarded annually to an emerging designer whose work articulates the potential for landscape as a medium of design in the public realm. The Kiley Fellow will be appointed Lecturer in Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design for the 2012-13 academic year. While the Kiley Fellowship will be awarded competitively on an annual basis, successful Fellows are eligible to have their academic appointments renewed for a second year at the rank of Lecturer, dependent upon review of their teaching, research and creative practice.

This initiative is intended to recognize and foster emerging design educators whose work embodies the potential for landscape as a medium of design in the public realm. The Daniel Urban Kiley Fellowship builds upon the history of pedagogic innovation at the GSD as well as the century of leadership in landscape education within the Department of Landscape Architecture. Deadline for receipt of applications: March 1, 2012

For details and more information, please visit the GSD Web Site or send an email kileyfellowship@gsd.harvard.edu

Annual Vermont Ski Day

Attention Winter Enthusiasts,

It is snowing in Burlington as I write this message – and so what better time to announce the 2012 VT ASLA Ski Day! Yaaahhoooooo!!!!!

This year marks our 10th Anniversary and we are excited to have you join the fun. This event is purely social (but some may see the networking benefits). There is no official member meeting, no fund raising, no educational credits. Just good ole Vermont skiing, riding, and gliding with Landscape Architects and allied professionals! Feel free to bring your family to join the fun; the more the merrier!

Here are the important details:

1. Join the Vermont Chapter of ASLA for a day of skiing/riding at Stowe Mountain Resort - FRIDAY - March 2, 2012. Nordic skiing is available at Trapp Family Lodge.

2. FREE Transportation is being provided for BSLA folks compliments of landscapeforms. Bus will depart Alewife Station, Cambridge at 6AM and return at 11PM. Space is limited. You must contact Nadene Parzych at nadenep@landscapeforms.com to hold your reservation.

3. You also must fill out the attached registration form by February 17 and submit to Adam Portz at aportz@segroup.com. After February 17th – there are NO REFUNDS or CANCELLATIONS ACCEPTED. Questions should be directed to Adam at 802.862.0098 x 117.

4. Lastly, landscapeforms has donated (1) Parc centre table and (2) chairs. Only one lucky person will win this great set of outdoor furniture. You must be 18 years or older to win (that's a joke) and attend the entire day and dinner (that's not!). Other raffle prizes included – so come join the fun.

UMass Student Chapter 4th Annual Career Fair

The Student ASLA Chapter at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst is currently seeking firms to participate in its 4th Annual Career Fair. Schedule for Thursday, March 15th, the Career Fair is an invaluable experience for students to gain perspectives from practicing landscape architects, refine their interview skills, and discover more about our BSLA firms. Even if you are not in a position to hire, this is a great way to give back to our upcoming leaders. You may even find someone you want to hire when the time comes.

To register or request additional information, please contact Kyle Jackson, UMass Student ASLA Chapter President at 508.245.8776 or kjjac0@student.umass.edu.
