Boston Landmarks Commission Looking for BSLA Members To Serving on The Commission
The Boston Landmarks Commission is looking for BSLA members interested in serving on the commission. They need two nominations for each of two positions for the mayor to select one each. It is for a Boston resident, for approximately 3-year terms, 2nd and 4th Tuesday evening meetings, etc. Current employees of the City of Boston will not be allowed. Candidates must possess expertise in landscape architecture and in historic preservation.

Landscape Design Bayside Promenade Trail

The City of Portland, Maine is seeking proposals from qualified landscape architects to perform landscape design for the Bayside Promenade Trail. Sealed Proposals plainly marked “Bayside Promenade Trail Landscape RFP” will be submitted to the City of Portland Purchasing Office at City Hall on 389 Congress Street in Portland, Maine 04101. Eight (8) copies of the proposal and one sealed cost proposal will be submitted before 3:30 pm on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at which time they will be publicly opened. Late or faxed proposals will not be accepted. All proposals shall be held open to acceptance for ninety days from opening. The City of Portland reserves the right to accept or reject any/or all proposals

Green Roof Infrastructure:
Design and Installation 201 Is Coming to Boston

This is GRHC’s second course in the Green Roof Accreditation Program. Registrants should have already taken the Green Roof Design 101 Introductory Course or have a solid understanding of green roof design and available technology.

This course covers a multitude of implementation issues and what cannot be taught in one day will be available as supporting documentation in the participant’s manual. Covering material dealing with green roof actors' roles and responsibilities, construction contracts & administration and material implementation, Green Roof Infrastructure Design and Installation 201 has it all!

UMass Extension's GREEN SCHOOL
Now Accepting Registrations - Classes Start November 6

Green School, a comprehensive 11-day certificate short course for Green Industry professionals taught by UMass Extension Specialists and University of Massachusetts faculty, begins November 6, 2008 in Milford, Mass. This popular course is designed for landscape professionals, lawn care specialists, arborists and other horticultural practitioners wishing to gain an understanding of horticultural fundamentals and strategies, as well as their relationship to environmental quality, but who can't fit a full academic course into their schedules. Green School students come away with the knowledge needed to make environmentally appropriate decisions related to turf and plant selection, arboriculture, plant maintenance, and pest and nutrient management.

Green School runs November 6 - December 18, 2008. It is held one to two days a week from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at the Radisson Hotel in Milford, MA.

Mid- and Senior-Level Landscape Architects
Young, design-oriented firm has an immediate opening for a junior project manager landscape architect (3-7 years experience) and a senior project manager landscape architect (8-15 years experience). Experience in large LA or multi-disciplinary firm desirable. CAD proficiency and high quality freehand graphics required.
